Gujjars plan a rally in the Capital

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The All-India Gujjar Sangharsh Samiti is organising a rally at the Ramlila grounds here on November 3 to press its various demands including Scheduled Tribe status for the community.

Addressing a press conference, Samiti patron Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Gujjars from all over the country would take part in the rally to put pressure on the Centre and the Rajasthan Government.

He said the rally would send out a strong message to both the governments that there should be no delay in conferring ST status.

The Samiti has also demanded that a Gujjar Regiment be created in the Army and adequate representation be given to the community in the Union Cabinet and the state governments.

The list of demands includes provision of one job for each Gujjar family whose land has been acquired by the Government and compensation to the affected families at market rates.

Mr. Bidhuri said house tax should be waived off in villages and the “Lal Dora” scheme should be extended to provide relief to villagers.
