He was attempting to travel on a fake passport from Chennai to London
CHENNAI: A Sri Lankan national was detained on Wednesday by the Central Crime Branch police on charges of attempting to travel on a fake passport from Chennai to London.
According to the police, Deiventhiran (37) of Vellavitta, Sri Lanka, arrived from Colombo on October 4. After travelling to several places, he had planned to leave for London by a scheduled airline from the city.
When the airport police found the passenger allegedly in possession of a fake passport, they handed him over to the CCB police. Initial inquiries revealed that the passport was forged and hence he was detained, a senior CCB officer said.
Further investigation is on.
