Suresh sparkles for MYCA

KOCHI: S. Suresh took four wickets for 29 runs as MYCA, Mattanchery, thrashed Chittoor Cricket Club by five wickets and entered the first phase pre-quarterfinals of the 57th Cordiant Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Palace Oval, Tripunithura, on Thursday.

On Wednesday, centuries from G.P. Unnikrishnan, Pradeep and an all-round performance from Jiju Janardhan helped Muthoot-ECC ‘A’ thrash the host Cordiant-Tripunithura CC ‘B’ by 346 runs and enter the quarterfinals.

Muthoot, which opened the batting, piled up 398 runs in 45 overs, a record for the tournament’s highest score.

The scores (first round): Chittoor CC, Ekm 159 in 31 overs (S. Suresh four for 29) lost to MYCA, Mattancherry 163 for five in 23 overs (Harikumar 43).

On Wednesday (pre-quarterfinal): Muthoot-ECC ‘A’, Kochi 398 for six in 45 overs (Pradeep 100, G.P. Unnikrishnan 122, Jiju Janardhan 81) bt Cordiant-Tripunithura CC ‘B’, Kochi 52 in 17.3 overs (Jiju Janardhan four for 29, S. Sreesanth three for 0). — Principal Correspondent
