Exquisite: An idol on display at the Poompuhar exhibition.
BANGALORE: Want a bit of the Cholas and the Pallavas in your drawing room? Interested in adorning your walls with intricate craftsmanship? Wish to light up your house with lamps that promise prosperity and knowledge?
If pockets run deep enough, then head out to the Poompuhar exhibition being held in the city at the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation on Brigade Road.
Bronze icons and statues, reminiscent of the ancient Chola, Pallava, Vijayanagara and Hoysala periods are on sale.
Made at Poompuhar’s production unit at Swamimalai, prices range between Rs. 2.5 lakh and Rs. 28 lakh.
Brass lamps, produced as per “Agama Sastras” at the corporation’s manufacturing units at Natchiarkoil, Madurai and Vagaikulam, are available for prices anywhere from Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 1 lakh.
A large collection of Tanjore paintings are on display and sale. They are priced between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2.45 lakh.
A press release from the corporation says that a special discount of 10 per cent is available on all crafts. The exhibition is on till November 7 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on all days except Sunday.
