Development plans of the State are urban-centric: Santhosh Hegde

Bangalore: Lokayukta N. Santhosh Hegde called upon the youth to help bridge the urban-rural divide in development.

Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day State-level conference of youth awardees, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports here on Thursday, he said: “The plans chalked out for development of the State are urban-centric. For overall development, we should also concentrate on the rural areas. The educated youth should help the Government bridge the urban-rural divide.”

Mr. Hedge stressed on the need for a youth policy in the State. He also said that more employment generation programmes needed to be formulated.

“Political parties are misguiding the youth. Youth need to be moulded in a proper manner, for which values are important. The youth should work towards reforming society, so that the country can prosper,” he said.

Later, Mr. Hegde interacted with the youth awardees. Asked about the Lokayukta’s demand for more teeth, he said the statutory body has booked 192 cases and conducted eight raids. “Our work has not got much publicity. Our demand for more power is still being discussed. We will continue to crack down on corrupt officials irrespective of whether it is granted,” he added.
