They certainly bit more than they could chew. When the auto drivers’ union leaders were engaged in talks with Government over compulsory installation of digital meters, they literally flew off the handle, made some remarks which angered the officials as well as the Minister. One of them also blurted out that the Government could seize any auto plying with a tampered meter.
That was the leverage the Government was hoping for. With the leader stubbornly rejecting the proposal for installation of digital meters, the Government announced that it would begin the ‘operation seizure’ of autos with faulty meters. And that’s the weak spot of the auto drivers, for many autos do not have a genuine meters.
And now for a change, the Government seems to be determined to crackdown. Let’s see who will have the last laugh this time.
