Garden Fair by the disabled promises a bouquet of plants and accessories Bangalore: For the youth with various disabilities, who train at the Horticulture Training Centre run by the Association of People with Disability (APD), here is a means to take their first step towards independence. The annual Garden Fair held by the APD showcases the talents of these youth. ADP is a voluntary organisation established in 1959 with the aim of empowering people with disabilities in Bangalore and beyond to become active contributing members of society. The centre, in 1988, started training young people in horticulture and plant management as well as learning to live with their disability. To help fund the work at the centre, the garden fair is held every year where a selection of exotic, ornamental and medicinal plants will be on display and sale. The event starts on November 2 and will go on till November 6 at the Horticulture Training Unit, 9, ‘B’ Main, LIC Colony, HAL 3rd Stage, Jeevan Bima Nagar, here. APD director V.S. Basavaraju said: “This year 31 students passed out of the course. For the next batch, we are planning to take at least 100 youth for this programme.” One of the highlights of the fair is that eco-friendly arts and crafts, most of them made by students will be on sale. WorkshopIn addition, there will be a workshop on medicinal and culinary plants conducted by Dhruv Rao on November 3. For details contact Ph: 25288672.
