Word of caution

A Congress MLA took his colleague by surprise by sternly advising him against travelling anywhere on Friday. Asked whether heavens were indeed going to fall if he did, the former replied that D. Nagender was formally assuming charge as president of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation unit of the party. His allusion was to the calamity that befell the city a day ahead of Mr. Nagender’s first attempt to take charge. Twin blasts at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat left 43 dead and dozens others injured.

The TDP too was not without its share of a similar anecdote. The day before actress Roja was assuming charge as Telugu Mahila president, two huge sections of the Punjagutta flyover gave way leading to postponement of her swearing in. So much for politicos seeking auspicious ‘muhurthams’ for taking over positions, small or big.
