Stiff resistance: Police foiling an attempt by CPI (M) activists to lay siege to the Collectorate by closing the main gate in Nizamabad on Thursday.

NIZAMABAD: Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers here on Thursday laid siege to the Collectorate demanding immediate steps by the Government to distribute house sites to the shelterless poor people in the town.

There was a mild scuffle between the police and the agitators as the former prevented the latter from entering the Collectorate by closing its main gate.

The Left leaders got into a heated argument with the police demanding that they allow them into the Collectorate premises to submit a memorandum to the authorities.

When the police allowed them, they sat on dharna right in front of the Pragati Bhavan entrance. They relented only after Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu came out and promised to look into their demands.

Addressing the gathering, the party State leader P. Murali Krishna said that despite repeated appeals to the authorities for distribution of house sites and sanction of houses, no action was taken so far. Party leaders M. Gangadarappa, D. Venkat, Noorjahan and A. Ramesh Babu led the agitation.

WARANGAL: Thousands of people thronged the district Collectorate to take part in the dharna under the aegis of CPI (M).

Addressing the gathering, party leaders G. Nagaiah, T. Srinivasa Rao, S. Krishna Reddy, sought to know how a poor person can build a house with just Rs. 40,000.

.

Later, the leaders met district Collector K. Damayanthi and submitted a memorandum.

ADILABAD: The CPI and CPI (M) staged simultaneous dharna in front of the district Collectorate here.

CPI (M) State leaders Sai Baba and Lanka Raghavulu and district general secretary Bandi Dattatri and CPI district general secretary M. Prabhakar Reddy criticised the Government’s anti-poor policies.

Sangareddy: The one-hour-long picketing of Collector’s office here by the two Left parties resulted in the assurance by Collector B. Venkatesam that he would issue pattas to the eligible poor by the end of December this year. Earlier, the activists of CPI (M) and CPI laid siege to the Collector’s office.

Addressing the gathering MLC Jelli Wilson said the Government has embarked on implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao recommendations and established a commission for land distribution.

CPI (M) district secretary Chukka Ramulu said that there was no response from the Minister for Housing Botsa Satyanarayana on the survey of Indiramma housing in 64 villages that the party has undertaken in the district.
