Samhita clinches title

ANANTAPUR: K. Samhita clinched the youth girls’ singles crown in the Vincent Ferrer State-ranking table tennis tournament at the District Sports Authority Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

Earlier, the three-day championship was declared open by Moncho Ferrer, Associate Programme Director, Rural Development Trust (RDT), a NGO involved in educational, ecological and health care activities. The results:

Girls: Youth final: K. Samhita (Atp) bt S.K. Mumtaz (Kri) 11-8, 11-5, 11-1, 11-8. Semifinal: Kalpana Puljal lost to S.K. Mumtaz 5-11, 6-11, 6-11, 11-4, 2-11.

Boys: Youth quarter-finals: Karan Mutha bt Vishnu Kalyan 11-4, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5, Krishna Kiriti bt M. Arun 11-8, 16-14, 11-9, 11-9.

Sub-junior quarterfinals: Ch.S.S.V. Ramana bt Sri Krishna Pranav 7-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-1, 11-9, 11-8; J. Shravan bt D. Sai Kumar 11-13, 8-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4; Pranay Hasan bt Gowtham Krishna 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7, 15-13; V.S.S. Kaushik bt Arsh Agarwal 11-6, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8.

ANU inter-collegiate kabaddi

The two-day Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-collegiate kabaddi tournament for men will be held at the V.P. Siddhartha Arts and Science College on October 26 and 27.

Fifteen teams will take part in the tournament, which is held on a knockout-cum-league format. On the inaugural day, Indian women’s team coach Padmaja Bala and veteran National player Nagaeswara Rao will be felicitated.

Veterans’ badminton

Andhra Pradesh State veterans’ badminton championship, scheduled from November 8 to 11, will now be held from November 11 to 13 at Chirala (Prakasam district).

Singles and doubles events will be held for men (above 45 and above 55) and women (above 35, above 45).
