Terrorism a serious threat: SAARC
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Home Ministers of SAARC countries on Thursday said terrorism remained a serious threat to peace and development in the region and called upon the member-states to strengthen institutional mechanisms to fight it effectively.
It was the second such meeting and chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
The Ministers called for closer cooperation, more frequent interaction and regular exchange of information amongst the law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and other trans-border crimes such as drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, arms smuggling and counterfeit currency. They reiterated their commitment to the 14th Summit Declaration to move from the declaratory to the implementation phase and underlined the need for a secure environment to facilitate economic growth, development and progress.
