Hyderabad triumphs

VISAKHAPATNAM: Hyderabad won the South Zone under-22 cricket tournament (C.K. Nayudu Trophy) here on Thursday thanks to its better run rate over Tamil Nadu and Karnataka after the three teams were tied with 19 points at the end of the round-robin matches.

Hyderabad’s 10-wicket win over Andhra helped the team garner six points from the match and a total of 19 to enter the three-way tie. Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu by five wickets and Goa gained a slender three-run lead over Kerala in an interesting final day’s play. Amit Yadav claimed five wickets for Goa in a drawn match.

Tamil Nadu, comfortably placed at 109 for two overnight was all out for 284 and Karnataka reached the runs needed for victory losing five wickets. Off-spinner R. Ashwin ended with a match haul of nine wickets.

Final positions: 1. Hyderabad (19 points, net run rate 2.121), 2. Karnataka (19, 1.485), 3. Tamil Nadu (19, 1.364), 4. Andhra (8), 5. Goa (5), 6. Kerala (1).

The scores: Tamil Nadu 130 and 284 (R. Srinivasan 142, R. Naresh 51, K. Varun Kumar 31, Nikhil Kashyap six for 75) lost to Karnataka 335 and 80 for five in 19.2 overs (Ganesh Satish 27 n.o., R. Ashwin four for 29).

Hyderabad 327 and five for no loss in two overs bt Andhra 128 and 203 in 111 overs (Seshavali 46, Atchuta Rao 33, Vishal Sharma four for 43, Lalit Mohan four for 75).

Goa 295 and 134 for seven in 63 overs (Mayank Gupta 34, Sourav 32, S. Anish three for 63) drew with Kerala 292 in 98.5 overs (Pravin Atchutan 126, R.V. Gomez 57 n.o., Rizwan 35, S. Anish 32, Amit Yadav five for 125, Badal Singh three for 54). — Special Correspondent
