Sonia’s visit to China shocking, says BJP

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has described Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s China visit as “shocking.” It charged that the “high-level entourage” that includes her son and general secretary of the All-India Congress Committee Rahul Gandhi had an “undisclosed agenda.”The party criticised the government’s “deafening silence” on the recent “intrusions” by the Chinese into Arunachal Pradesh. Describing this as an important issue related to national security and sovereignty, party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy objected to the “praise heaped” on the Chinese leadership by not only the Communist Party of India (Marxist) but also the Congress president.

To questions on the BJP’s participation in party-to-party contact programmes with the Chinese Communist Party, Mr. Rudy said he was unaware of any such move.

But another leader admitted that when the BJP was heading the government at the Centre and Jana Krishnamurthy was party president, it had accepted a Chinese invitation; a delegation had visited China and also praised that country.
