KOCHI: The Ministry of Human Resource Development’s award for Hindi writers in non-Hindi speaking areas for 2004-05 has been given to N. Chandrasekharan Nair, former head of the department and professor of Hindi at M.G. University. Dr. Nair was chosen for the Rs.1 lakh award for his literary work on the legendary artist from Kerala, Raja Ravi Varma. The book, Chitrakala Samrat Raja Ravi Varma, includes 16 Ravi Varma paintings. The award also carries a citation. The founder of the Kerala Hindi Sahitya Academy, Dr. Nair, said that he would utilise the award money to encourage Hindi students who excel.
