Krishnagiri: Farmers in Krishnagiri district on Friday demanded the district administration to ensure the speedy disbursal of crop loans to farmers. Participating in the agricultural grievances day, a majority of farmers alleged that Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks (PACBs) were turning a deaf ear to the complaints of farmers in getting loans even after producing valid documents. IrregularitiesThey urged the Collector to instruct the banks concerned to disburse loans to all eligible farmers at the earliest. Responding to their grievances the Collector Santhosh Babu replied that the State Government had fixed a sum of Rs.258 crore for disbursal of crop loans in Krishnagiri district in the current fiscal. Of this an amount of Rs.15 crore would be disbursed through cooperative banks and the remaining amount through nationalised banks. Crop loans to the tune of Rs.82 crore were disbursed to farmers in Krishnagiri district so far he said. Farmers alleged that there were widespread irregularities in the implementation of various horticultural schemes. Officials replied that subsidy would be provided to eligible farmers under various schemes in the current year. CompensationRamagounder, a farmer, alleged that the Government had not issued compensation for farmers who had given lands for extension of the right main canal of the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP). PWD officials replied that the Government had allotted an amount of Rs.1.9 crore for providing compensation to farmers. Jayalakshmi, a farmer, claimed that unannounced and frequent power cuts had affected farming activities in Maharajakadai area. Farmers requested the district administration to ensure speedy disbursal of amount to sugarcane farmers in the Dharmapuri District Cooperative Sugar Mills at Palacode. The Collector assured the farmers that steps would be initiated to disburse the pending amount immediately. District Revenue Officer V. Mohanraj was present.
