TIRUNELVELI: A farmer was killed when water gushed out of an irrigation tank near Puliyangudi on Friday. The police said that Palanisamy (44) of Pattakurichi near Puliyangudi, along with a group of villagers, was trying to plug the breach at Periyakulam after it received heavy inflow owing to incessant rain since Wednesday night. As he was suddenly caught in the gushing water, he sustained injuries and lost breath. Though he was rescued by other villagers, he died later. The Puliyangudi police have registered a case and are investigating.
