Minister promises vocational training for unemployed youth

He also distributed welfare assistance to 14,625 beneficiaries

For the deserving: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin distributing monthly dole to an unemployed youth at a function in Namakkal on Friday.

NAMAKKAL: The State government would lay an alternate route to Kolli Hills at an estimated cost of Rs. 11 crore, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin has said.

After launching the fourth phase of the scheme for the distribution of monthly dole to the unemployed and the short term training programme for the beneficiaries of the scheme here on Friday, the minister said that the road would be laid between Mullukurichi and Nariyankadu with the financial assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The government would initiate steps to get permission from the Union government for the same. Proposals in this regard had already been forwarded to the Centre, he pointed out.

Mr. Stalin said that over 3.50 lakh unemployed youth in the State would be covered under the fourth phase of the scheme. The government had already distributed Rs. 55.57 crore as monthly dole to 3.38 lakh unemployed youth in three phases.

In Namakkal district, a total of 10,356 unemployed youth would get monthly dole under the fourth phase. The district administration had already covered 24,194 youth in three phases. The minister also said that the government would provide short term vocational training to about 50,000 youth, who were covered under the monthly dole scheme for the unemployed, to improve their employability.

He further said that the government was implementing a number of programmes for women empowerment. Later, he distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 6 crore to 14,625 beneficiaries. The assistance included Rs. 6.30 lakh as monthly dole to 1,081 unemployed youth.

He also laid foundation stone for development works to the tune of Rs. 9.6 crore.

Earlier, he inaugurated the newly constructed building for the office of the Superintendent of Police. He also inaugurated women multipurpose training hall built at Kolli Hills.

Those who spoke in the function included Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy and Labour and Employment Secretary Ramesh Kumar Khanna. Collector G. Sundaramurthi presided over the function.
