‘Municipal chairman aiding multinationals’

Staff Reporter

Kasaragod: Nine Viplava Yuvajana Vedi activists, on Friday, subjected Kanhangad municipal chairman N.A. Khalid of the Indian Union Muslim League to a public trial forcefully and charged him of aiding multinationals in retail marketing.

The incident occurred in the morning when Mr. Khalid arrived at the municipal office. The activists dragged the municipal chairman out of his car and took him to a nearby road. They accused Mr. Khalid of being an agent of the multinationals and imperialists. A scuffle ensued between Mr. Khalid and the activists.

The chairman was released after the Kanhangad police arrived at the scene. The vedi activists were arrested.

The police said the nine activists belonged to various districts in the State.

Various groups had recently protested against the permission granted to a private group to open its retail marketing centre in the town.
