Young World quiz on November 5

Kochi: The Hindu Young World Quiz ’07, the eighth edition of the event, will be held at A.J. Hall on the Kaloor-Kadavanthara road here on November 5.

The quiz is open to students from classes 6 to 9. Teams of two each can participate. A school can send a maximum of three teams. Entry cards have been sent to the schools, which should fill and send them to the local office of The Hindu within the specified dates.

The competition will get under way at 11 a.m. with a written preliminary round to select six teams for the second and final round. The first-prize winner will be eligible to participate in the grand all-India final to be held in Visakhapatnam this year. The Hindu will meet the travel, lodging and boarding expenses of the teams and one accompanying parent or teacher coming from the various centres to Visakhapatnam.

For the regional winners, the first prize is Rs. 8,000, second Rs. 6,000 and third Rs. 4,000. The prize money will be double those for the national winners. There will be several other prizes in cash and kind at the regional and national levels for the participants and the audience.

The competition is being organised in 12 other centres. Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode are the two other centres in Kerala.

Amity University is the national title sponsor for the competition. Tara talcum powder and Lotte BooProo are the associate sponsors.

The other sponsors at the national level are GM Pens, Penguin, Encyclopaedia Britannica, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Vizag Steel Plant, Tourism Malaysia and Extramarks.com. Dabur-Real Mango is the beverage sponsor. The event managers are Quizwalahs. Nutrifud Cakes and Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co. are the State-level sponsors.
