Madhya Pradesh
The network would become active before the Science day on February 28, 2008 A new Biotechnology Centre for Excellence has been set up Bhopal: In its effort to promote science and technology in the State, the Madhya Pradesh Government is planning to set up a network involving schools, universities and Central agencies for the purpose. “The Madhya Pradesh Council for Science and Technology (MPCST) is in the process of establishing a science and technology network in the State that would involve active participation of students and NGOs working for its promotion,” MPCST Director-General Mahesh Sharma told reporters here on Friday. He said related Central agencies, State-level partners including government departments and different stakeholders would also be a part of the network that would become active before the Science day on February 28, 2008. Highlighting various activities of the Council, Mr. Sharma said both the size and scope of the schemes have increased manifold and their impact on State’s development has become more focused. Referring to activities of the Remote Sensing Application Centre (RSAC) of the council, he said it has expanded a lot by tying up for projects with various State government departments, apart from its usual tie-up with the Central agencies like India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and others. Mr. Sharma said the council was also promoting biotechnology and the first step towards it was setting up of the Biotechnology Centre for Excellence. “The task force established for this purpose has already been finalised and its report and the process would be set rolling shortly,” he said, adding that the excellence mission of the council aims at “identifying, nurturing, granting recognition and rewarding the talented youth from organised school/college and unorganised sector.” He said the infrastructure was also being expanded and the staff strength -- both scientific as well as administrative --is also being increased to cater to the expanded activities of the council. -- PTI
