CUTTACK: At least three passengers died and nine others were critically injured when the bus in which they were travelling collided with a loaded truck on NH-5 near Tangi Bazaar, about 20 km from here on Friday afternoon. The injured have been shifted to SCB hospital here. Hospital sources said except one youth, who sustained multiple injuries, the remaining are out of danger.The passenger bus was going towards Jajpur Road from Cuttack. Quoting surviving passengers police said the bus was overtaking the lorry from wrong side and failing to judge the distance the bus hit the truck around 12.30 pm. The bus then lost balance and skidded to its left. "Three persons died on the spot while 15 others were injured, nine of them critically. The critically injured persons were immediately shifted to Cuttack hospital by NH patrolling party", said the Tangi police station officer-in-charge S R Kar. Among the deceased, only one person was identified to be one Kanduri Behera, aged about 50 years of Dhenkanal district, Mr. Kar said adding that the identity of the other two victims could not ascertained yet. Police believe the helper of the bus also died in the accident while the conductor and the bus driver have fled from the spot.
