PUDUKOTTAI: The State government has approached National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to extend its funding programme for provision of additional infrastructure to schools.
Hitherto, NABARD released funds only for construction of classrooms, additional classrooms and laboratories, but there was a strong case for construction of compound walls and provision of furniture, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said on Friday.
Distributing unemployment assistance at a function held in Tirumayam, near here, he said a large number of schools would benefit once NABARD extended its norms on sanctioning funds to schools.
The Minister gave away assistance to the tune of Rs.1.85 lakh to 318 unemployed youths under the fourth phase of the programme.
Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy said the scheme for assistance reflected the government’s concern for unemployed youth.
Collector D. Uthirakkumaran said a total of 10,894 persons had benefited under the scheme. A sum of Rs.2.47 crore had been released to them.
