‘Kartheeka Deepotsavam’ at ISKCON

Staff Reporter

Fete to continue till November 24 at Radha Govinda Mandir

TIRUPATI: International Society for Krsna Consciousness (ISKCON) will be observing the month-long ‘Damodara Kartheeka Deepotsavam’ at its Radha Govinda Mandir (Lotus Temple) here till November 24.

Kartheeka Masa, which is generally auspicious for most occasions in the Hindu calendar, is also believed to be the favourite month of Lord Krishna. Mythology has it that it was in this month that Krishna was tied to a huge grinding stone (Rolu) by his mother Yasodha. “This divine episode explains how the omnipotent Lord can be tied by motherly love and sheer devotion,” explained Revati Ramandas, ISKCON’s Tirupati head at a media conference here on Friday. He showed the cover page of the ISKCON’s monthly organ ‘Bhagavat Darshanam’ depicting the holy event and said that taking up special prayers during the month would eliminate the chance of rebirth and take one close to liberation.

Devotees willing to take part in the event can congregate at the temple between 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. till November 24.
