Belgaum: A tourism hub will be established in Belgaum to boost tourism activities in and around the city soon. According to a release quoting Director of Karnataka State Tourism Department, C. Somashekhar, here on Friday, a tourism information centre will be also be opened to provide information about the various places of interest in the city for the benefit of visitors from home and abroad. The “Suvarna Rath” being built on the lines of “Palace on Wheels” is likely to start by the end of November or early December. This project is bound to boost tourism prospects in the State. Bangalore, Shravanabelgola, Mysore, Kabini, Belur, Halebeedu, Hampi, Badami, Pattadakal and Goa will be covered by “Suvarna Ratha”. The Government has provided Rs. 148 crore toward modernisation of the Tourism Department and development of tourism in the State in the annual budget allocations for the financial year 2007-08. The department has made arrangements for South India tour of students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. About 200 such students will be selected in each district for the tour programme.
