Lokayukta’s work to feature in study

BANGALORE: The working of the Lokayukta will be featured in an international study to be brought out on the occasion of 200 years of the constitution of ombudsman in Sweden.

The celebrations will be held in Amsterdam in 2009.

In an email, Sayora Rashidova, ombudsman of Uzbekistan, whose function is similar to that of the Lokayukta, has asked N. Santosh Hegde to share the experience and activities of the institution.

“We invite you to take part in the celebration,” Ms. Rashidova has said.

She has asked Mr. Hegde to send a 10-page write-up on the Lokayukta.

The information will be used in the study of the ombudsman across the world, its condition and the legal status, he said.

Mr. Hegde said a reply has been sent explaining about the Lokayukta Act and the way the institution was using it in tackling corruption and bringing in good governance.

“I have also explained ways in which the institution has taken recourse to other Acts to achieve the purpose of the Act,” he said.
