The agreement was signed by Transport Commissioner Ramesh Chandrabhanu and Additional Chief Secretary, Transport, Ajoy Choudhary for Kerala and Transport Commissioner C.P. Singh and Secretary, Transport, Jabendranath Sarangi for Tamil Nadu.

The Transport Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu Mathew T.Thomas and V.N. Nehru respectively, who were also present at the function, later exchanged the agreement.

As per the accord, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be able to ply an additional distance of 4,232.4 km in Tamil Nadu in addition to the existing 28,784 km. The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) will be able to ply 4,226.6 km in Kerala in addition to the existing 28,802 km.

Mr. Thomas said the new bus services would be operated to Nagercoil via Kaliakkavila, Thenkasi via Shencottah, Teni via Kumili, Coimbatore via Palakkad and Sulthan Bathery via Guddalore as per the agreement reached between the two States. The agreement had been approved by the Kerala Cabinet, he said.

The Minister mooted the idea of a comprehensive agreement instead of the supplementary agreement signed on June 30, 1976.

It was agreed that the agreement would be reviewed within one year and that the next agreement would not be a supplementary agreement.

Services to Pampa

Meanwhile, the KSRTC and the SETC entered into an agreement to operate 30 bus services to Pampa from various destinations during the forthcoming Mandala-Makaravilakku season.

The agreement to this effect was signed by Chairman and Managing Director of KSRTC T.P. Senkumar and Managing Director of SETC M. Ramasubramoniam. The buses to Pamba will ply from November 15 to January 20 next. The KSRTC will deploy 46 buses for operating services from Pampa to Tamil Nadu.
