Bid process for project starts

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on Friday started the sale of the document for its global tender for execution of the much-delayed 163-MW hydroelectric project at Athirappally in Thrissur district.

The last date for the sale of the bid document is November 23 and the last date for submission of the bids is December 26, before noon.

Scope of work

According to the tender notice published by the KSEB, the scope of the work will include all additional investigations required for undertaking the project, planning, design and engineering, supply of equipment and materials, civil construction, installation of machinery, testing, and commissioning. The works have to be executed on turn-key basis.

The KSEB has also published certain qualifications specifying the experience and competence of the companies or contractors making the bid. The pre-qualification bids are to be opened at 3 p.m. on December 27. More details about the tender can be obtained from the KSEB’s website www.kseboard.com, or from the office of the Chief Engineer (Civil Construction) South, KSEB, Vydyuthi Bhavanam, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram – 695004, Kerala.

The KSEB’s original proposal for a hydroelectric project at Athirappally came as early as in 1979.

It was abandoned and a revised one prepared in 1988, which was rejected by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests next year on environmental grounds.

The proposal was yet again revised addressing the objections, but the KSEB could not proceed with that proposal also due to a court dispute by an environmental group. Matters had been cleared in the court only last year.
