This Day That Age
Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam, State Home Minister, rejected the demand for a judicial enquiry into the recent incidents in the Ramanathapuram district as “such a probe at this juncture can only aggravate the situation and give a new lease of life to the forces of hatred and disunity that are just being brought under control.” He was making a statement on the floor of the Assembly in Madras on October 25 on the happenings and said it had been alleged the clashes were not really communal in origin but political. “The only political element in these incidents,” he said, “is that the deep-rooted communal animosities in this area have been deliberately worked up by interested political groups.”
