Deboutte, Belgium Ambassador to India, in New Delhi on Friday, at the launch of the daily flight from New Delhi to New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport. NEW DELHI: After connecting Mumbai-Brussels-Newark with daily flights, Jet Airways on Friday announced the launch of its daily flight from Delhi to New York’s John F Kennedy (JFK) international airport via its newly-opened European hub in Brussels. Beginning October 28, the Delhi-New York (JFK) flight will be operated by Jet Airways’ brand new Boeing 777-300 Extended Range (ER) aircraft, configured for eight first class suites, 30 seats in Premiere Class and 274 in the Economy class. Welcoming the launch of the flight, US Ambassador in India David Mulford said the historic ‘Open Skies’ agreement between India and the U.S. in 2005 was a remarkable accomplishment of showcasing how quick negotiations could be successfully held. He said that growing people-to-people relations between the two countries had substantially increased the number of Indians travelling to America and there was still a huge demand for travel. Mr. Mulford said that over the past year nearly 7.25 lakh Indians had applied for visa for visiting the U.S., indicating the growing interest of the people in India in America. Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal said that his airline would also launch flights from Indian cities to Chicago, Washingtong and Los Angeles. He said plans were afoot to launch flights on Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco sector by next year. Brussels had also made suggestion to increase the current 21 weekly flights to 56 in near future, he added.
