SN College triumphs

Thiruvananthapuram: SN College, Chempazanthy, won the overall title in the Kerala University inter-collegiate swimming meet which concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Friday.

SNC which won the title in both men’s and women’s section logged 195 points to come first. MG College finished second with 122 points followed by Iqbal College, Peringamala with 48 points.

Four new records were set on the final day with all of them coming in the women’s section. The day’s records were set by A.R. Rohini, Saranya S. Nair, S. Beena and K.R. Anu.

The results (winners only): Men: 50m freestyle: S. Sunil (SNC, Chempazanthy) 0:34.85; 100m freestyle: Bichu Suresh (SNC, Chempazanthy) 0:59.41.

1,500m freestyle: Arun Krishnan (MG college) 18:57.91; 200m backstroke: M.L. Nithin (SNC, Chempazanthy) 1:09.05.

50m breaststroke: S. Sunil (SNC, Chempazanthy) 0:34.86; 100m breaststroke: S. Sunil (SNC, Chempazanthy) 1:16.02; 100m butterfly: Rajesh Kumar (MG college) 1:06.63; 200m IM: V.R. Anoop (Iqbal College) – 2:30.84.

Women: 100m freestyle: A.R. Rohini (SNC, Chempazanthy) 1:06.60; 400m freestyle: Saranya S. Nair (MG College) 6:15.35 (NR); 100m backstroke: K.R. Anu (University College) 1:17.66 (NR); 50m breaststroke: B.R. Neenu (SNC, Chempazanthy) 0:40.16.

100m breaststroke: B.R. Neenu (SNC, Chempazanthy) 1:30.85; 100m butterfly: S. Beena (SNC, Chempazanthy) 1:16.22; 200m IM: S. Beena (SNC, Chempazanthy) 2:53.09 (NR).

Team championship: Men: 1. SNC, Chempazanthy (84 pts), 2. MG College, Tvm (68 pts), 3. Iqbal College, Peringamala (48 pts).

Women: SNC, Chempazanthy (111 pts), 2. MG College, Tvm (54 pts), 3. University College, Tvm (25 pts).

Overall: 1. SNC, Chempazanthy (195 pts), 2. MG College, Tvm (122 pts), 3. Iqbal College (48 pts).
Afsar scalps five

P.V. Afsar picked five wickets for 12 runs as AG’s Office SRC, Thrissur, drubbed President’s Sporting XI (Ernakulam) by 150 runs and entered the first phase pre-quarterfinal of the 57th Cordiant Pooja all-India cricket tournament at Kochi on Friday.

AG’s Office SRC, Thrissur 225 for seven in 40 overs (Vysakh Chandran 33, Sanoop 31, Anoop K. Baby three for 39) bt President’s Sporting XI, Perumbavoor 75 in 19 overs (P.V. Afsar five for 12).
