HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu is leaving for New Delhi tomorrow to take up the issue of minimum support price for paddy with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh finally granting appointment. At a press conference, Leader of Telugu Desam Party in Rajya Sabha R. Chandrasekhar Reddy refuted the Congress charge and said that the party had indeed sought formal appointment with Dr. Singh by writing to him on October 10. It was followed up with a reminder on October 15. “We feel pity for Dr. Singh as he is unable to take any decision on his own, bogged down as it were in nuclear deal,” he said. Even now TDP is prepared to join the all-party delegation, if the Government wants to take it. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy will meet the Prime Minister on November 2 seeking an MSP of over Rs. 1,000 a quintal for paddy. It was evident that the Chief Minister will not lead an all-party delegation after he held discussions with Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy and officials. Official sources said the Chief Minister would cite recommendation of the Swaminathan Committee while seeking a higher MSP for paddy. He is also planning to meet Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. Salaries and perksA press release issued by the Chief Minister’s office said that higher MSP for paddy was a must on the ground that salaries, allowances, and perks for employees both in Government and private sectors had gone up steeply while incomes of farmers remained static.
