Role of youth in national development stressed

INSPIRING THE YOUTH: Philipose Mar Chrysostum, Senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, inaugurating a youth camp organised by the district unit of the State Youth Welfare Board in Pathanamthitta on Friday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, has said the youth have to play a key role in national development.

He was inaugurating a day-long workshop for a youth volunteer force, organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board district unit, here on Friday.

The Metropolitan also called upon the youth to act against the evils in society and promote goodness.

District Collector Raju Narayanaswamy who is also the ex-officio district chairman of the board presided over the inaugural function.

Saleem P. Chacko, member, State Youth Welfare Board, welcomed the gathering. V.S. Bindu, Officer, District Youth Welfare Board, offered a vote of thanks.

N. Sajikumar, district secretary, DYFI; A. Sureshkumar, district president, Youth Congress; G. Krishnakumar, State secretary, Kerala Youth Front (Secular); Prasanth V. Kurup, leader, Yuva Janata Dal; A.M. Aji, district secretary, AIYF; and Hansalah

Muhamed, Bijoy Thomas, Aji B. Ranni, R. Ajesh, Smiju Jacob, K. Ashokkumar and Jose P. Thomas, district leaders of various youth organisations, addressed the inaugural meet.

V. Rajagopal of the Road Safety Mission took a class on ‘Road safety.’ R. Chandrashekharan, Circle Inspector, Kozhencherry, spoke on ‘Excessive human intervention in nature causing natural calamities.’As many as 175 select volunteers attended the workshop
