Plea to NHRC on Blueline killings

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A delegation of non-government organisations led by former Union Minister Vijay Goel called on the National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Justice S. Rajender Babu, on Friday and submitted a complaint against violation of basic human rights because of the conditions created on the Capital’s roads by Blueline buses, which have killed 99 people so far this year.

Petition submitted

The delegation submitted a petition to Mr. Justice Babu stating that the complainant, Mr. Goel, being a representative of the people felt duty-bound to approach the NHRC for protection of the human rights and Fundamental Rights of the citizens.

It also said that Mr. Goel was deeply concerned with the present state of affairs created by the presence of Blueline buses on the roads.

Stating that the Blueline buses had become a big menace and were threatening the lives of people, Mr. Goel said the NHRC Chairman gave the delegation a hearing and also expressed concern over the issue. He said the complaint was received by the Commission and the Chairman would soon fix a date for personal hearing on the matter.
