Hyderabad: Counting was suspended in the Students Union election of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Friday night after a contestant objected alleging that his name was wrongly printed in the ballot papers. It was later decided to conduct re-polling for that particular post on October 30. The counting would also be taken up for all the posts on the same day. Cherabanda Raju contesting for the post of cultural secretary objected to the polling arguing that his name was printed as Ch. Raju in the ballot sheet and that would work to his disadvantage. He appealed to the election committee that re-polling should be held for the post after the correction of his name. Some other students supported him stating that the full name of the candidate had to be printed. After the issue was taken to the Dean, Students Welfare, he decided to suspend the counting for that particular post and go ahead with the counting for other posts. However, members of Student’s Federation of India (SFI) objected to it stating that counting for all the posts should be taken up at the same time. They blamed the election commission for the blunder. Later, in the open court the arguments of the different parties were presented and it was decided to conduct re-polling for the post of cultural secretary on October 30.
