Court nod for telecast of serial on Veerappan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has permitted the telecast of a serial on brigand Veerappan, after the satellite channel gave an undertaking that nothing depicting the personal life of Veerappan’s wife and daughters would be shown.

Justice P. Jyothimani, setting aside a city civil court order restraining Makkal Television from telecasting the serial, said: “I have no hesitation to come to a conclusion that the order is liable to be set aside.”

He also recorded the undertaking given by the senior counsel for the Makkal Television that they would not telecast about the personal life of Muthulakshmi and her daughters while telecasting ‘Sandhana Kaadu’. The serial would depict Veerappan based on public records. Mr. Justice Jyothimani directed the subordinate court to dispose of the pending appeal on or before November 2.
