MADURAI: Government schools in the State will soon have “brand ambassadors” to bolster the public image of the institutions and morale of their students.
“These brand ambassadors with popular standing in society could help in giving a fillip to schools under the Government set-up,” Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu told The Hindu here on Friday.
He said the idea of getting a few celebrities like film stars, sportspersons or persons of high repute was being considered so that they could visit some Government schools and interact with staff/students.
The Minister said the visits of prominent persons would give confidence to students studying in Government schools who were from downtrodden and underprivileged sections of society.
“We will contact some reputed personalities to interact with the children, ” Mr. Thennarasu said.
He said the Directorate of School Education was compiling statistical data on the current status of school education in the State in an attempt to track the system efficiently.
The exercise would be undertaken in all districts to provide details of number of schools, teachers, students, infrastructure position and socio-economic background of students.
“We have asked the department staff to complete it by January. It will help us in addressing the problems/requirements in a holistic manner,” the Minister said.
Madurai Chief Educational Officer R. Pandurangan said a handbook of school education was being prepared for the district.
It would cover areas of distribution of schools, student enrolment and number of teachers employed in all categories, he said.
