No stay on proceedings against Sasikala

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has declined to stay the adjudication proceedings initiated by the Enforcement Directorate against Sasikala.

Justice K. Suguna, dismissing the miscellaneous petition seeking a stay on the ED proceedings, posted Ms. Sasikala’s main petition seeking to quash the entire proceedings to the second week of November.

Ms. Sasikala had sought quashing of the over 10-year-old proceedings on the grounds of laches and failure to disclose the list of witnesses even after a court directive to that effect.

However, Additional Solicitor-General V.T. Gopalan and Assistant Solicitor-General P. Wilson submitted that the matter was scheduled to be taken up for further proceedings in Delhi on October 29, and that there was no necessity to stay the proceedings.

According to the ED, a loan of Rs. 3 crore, transferred from Malaysia to India, was utilised by Ms. Sasikala, V.N. Sudhagaran and J. Elavarasi to purchase the Kodanad Tea Estate.
