Terrible day for Atwal

Miami: Arjun Atwal’s woeful run continued and his two-over 73 saw him tied for the 88th spot in the opening round of $575,000 Miccosukee championship in the U.S. Nationwide Tour here.

The Orlando-based Indian, who is struggling to maintain his place inside the top 60 of the money list to qualify for next week’s Nationwide Tour championship, managed just two birdies against four bogeys.

Atwal, whose hopes to secure the 2008 PGA Tour card hinges on his performance in the next two events, will have to put up a vastly improved show in the second round.

American Dustin Bay returned a flawless six-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over compatriot D.A. Points. Argentine Fabian Gomez occupied the third position with a 67. — PTI
