NEW DELHI: A day after the telecast of the Tehelka sting operation on the post-Godhra riots that exposed Gujarat government’s alleged role and complacency in the killings, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India and the Rashtriya Janata Dal on Friday demanded action against the guilty. The CPI(M) said the Tehelka tapes should be taken as prima facie evidence and the Supreme Court and the Centre should move expeditiously to see that the guilty were brought to justice. “The Central government and the law enforcement agencies have a special responsibility in this regard,” the party’s Polit Bureau said in a statement. “It has confirmed what is well known that the 2002 violence in Gujarat was a State-sponsored one. Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his government are fully responsible for this gross violation of human rights and subversion of the Constitution,” the CPI(M) said. RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to get Mr. Modi and BJP leader L. K. Advani arrested for their alleged role in the riots. “The sting operation has exposed Mr. Modi’s deep involvement in the post-Godhra riots. People now know the real faces involved in the crime against humanity,” Mr. Prasad was quoted by agencies as telling journalists in Patna. The CPI said the Nanavati Commission, which was probing the riots, should take suo motu cognisance of the statements reportedly made in the sting operation.
