THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The University of Kerala will organise a three-day conference on Malayalam from November 1 as part of its ‘Suvarna Keralam’ programme to celebrate the golden jubilee of the formation of Kerala State. With financial assistance from non-resident Keralites in the U.S., the university will institute an annual award for the best doctoral thesis in Malayalam, M.K. Ramachandran Nair, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said at a press conference here. The award will have a prize money of Rs.50,000. The university will announce the name of the winner of this year’s award soon. An exhibition on Malayalam language and culture, a seminar on various aspects of the language and a dramatic visualisation of its evolution would be organised as part of the conference. Focussed discussions on the art forms of the State, women in Kerala, the media scene, translation literature and a poets’ meet would be held. A seminar on environmental issues in the State would also be organised, Dr. Nair said. ‘Amma Malayalam,’ the dramatic visualisation, would be held at the university Senate Hall on November 3. The programme will depict milestones in the history of the State, the evolution of language and literature, art, society and politics.
