Greenpeace ship not allowed to dock

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Members of Greenpeace, an international organisation involved in raising awareness of the environment, on Friday strongly condemned the denial of permission for Greenpeace’ ship, Rainbow Warrior, to dock in Chennai. The ship left without docking at the city’s ports on Thursday night.

Activists of the organisation in inflatable boats had painted a slogan against coal usage on an incoming coal carrier, APJ Sridevi, outside the Ennore port previously. Following the incident, the Rainbow Warrior was told that space was unavailable in Chennai port and that Ennore port would have space. “Governments should arrest climate change, not those protesting actions threatening the environment,” said G. Ananthapadmanabhan, executive director, Greenpeace India.
