More relief material for fishermen

PUDUKOTTAI: Additional relief material will be provided to 693 fishermen, who were affected by the tsunami in 2004. The material includes fishing nets, first aid box, hand lights and life-saving jackets.

Fisheries Minister K.P.P. Sami will distribute relief material to 100 beneficiaries at Manamelkudi on October 30. Subsequently, the relief material will be distributed to beneficiaries in the coastal villages of Kattumavadi, Seetharamanpattinam, Ammapattinam, Kottaipattinam, Jagadapattinam and Pudukudi. The list containing the names of the beneficiaries is displayed at the taluk office, an official press release here said.

The State government has given Rs.54.63 lakh as relief to the fishermen affected by the tsunami. Under the National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen, a sum of Rs.75.26 lakh will be disbursed to 6,038 fishermen in the district.
