PUDUCHERRY: The traffic police have made elaborate arrangements to ease congestion in the town during ‘Deepavali.’ Certain regulations will be in effect till November 8. As per the regulations that come into effect from Saturday, autorickshaws without passengers will not be allowed to ply on Nehru Street. Owners of shops on Anna Salai, Nehru Street and Mission Street will not be allowed to park their vehicles in front of the shops. Instead, the people who come to shop will be allowed to park their vehicles on the streets. Vehicles will not be allowed to ply from South to North direction on S.S. Pillai Street, Bharathy Street and M.G. Road between Rangapillai Street and Kosakadai Street, a release from the Traffic Police said. No vehicle would be allowed to ply on Nehru Street throughout November 7, the release added. Cracker shop owners have been advised not to display their products on the platform. Any violation would be strictly dealt with, the release said. The public have been advised not to burst crackers on road and between 10 p.m and 6 a.m. The bursting of crackers such as rockets have been prohibited in public places, the release said.
