Farmers’ plea: BJP Kisan Morcha leader Hanmanth Reddy at a meeting with the management of Ganapathi Sugars limited in Fasalwadi on Saturday. –

Sangareddy: Following lengthy deliberations between Sugarcane farmers and the Fasalwadi based Ganapathi Sugar Mills here on Saturday, the management agreed to pay the arrears provided there is substantial increase in the sugar prices.

The management has assured the farmers to pay Rs. 1,225 per tonne in three phases during the 2006 crushing season. The farmers then demanded Rs. 1,400 per tonne. However, the third part payment of Rs. 75 is yet to be paid. With the new crushing season fast approaching the farmers started demanding for the balance amount. The management which held talks with the farmers twice in recent times maintained that the amount was withheld following the fall in sugar prices below Rs. 1,250 per quintal.

Share the profit

The total amount due to farmers is around Rs 5.40 crore which the management says is a heavy financial burden. The management has told the farmers that they would share the profits with the farmers in a 50:50 ratio. Instead of paying Rs. 75 that they were supposed to pay the farmers they would like to share amount received above the current Rs. 1,250 per quintal of sugar in the market. The farmers agreed to this proposal. Cane Development Commission chairman Prabhu Goud company director Nair, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh district president Hanmanth Reddy and Manjeera Sugarcane farmers association president Laxma Reddy were present.
