NEW DELHI: To commemorate 23 years of its work and showcase its struggle and success, Vidya, a non-government organisation working for education and women’s empowerment among socially disadvantaged people, celebrated its Founder’s Day here on Saturday. Apart from looking back at the NGO’s journey since its inception, the celebrations also highlighted the present challenges facing the organisation. Its chairperson, Rashmi Misra, said, “Our biggest challenge today is to build the Vidya school in Gurgaon by 2009 that will endeavour to send the less privileged children to the best professional colleges of the country. We also need to find an alternateive space for our Bal Vihar school in South Delhi as we have been asked to vacate the present premises that have about 300 underprivileged students studying there.”
The NGO invited a distinguished panel of educationists comprising Prof. M. G. K. Menon to share their thoughts and vision about Vidya. Also present on the occasion were a few students belonging to Vidya schools who shared their association with the organisation and spoke of their dreams and ambitions.
