To improve facilities for travellers

KSRTC will cover additional 4,232.4 km in Tamil Nadu

SETC will operate in 4,226.6 km more in Kerala

Kovalam: Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Friday signed the seventh supplementary inter-State transport accord here for improving facilities for inter-State travellers.

It was signed by Transport Commissioner Ramesh Chandrabhanu and Additional Chief Secretary, Transport, Ajoy Choudhary for Kerala, and Transport Commissioner C.P. Singh and Secretary, Transport, Jabendranath Sarangi, for Tamil Nadu.

Transport Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu Mathew T. Thomas and V.N. Nehru exchanged the agreement.

Cabinet nod

The accord allows the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to cover an additional 4,232.4 km in Tamil Nadu in addition to the existing 28,784 km. The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) will cover 4,226.6 km in Kerala in addition to the existing 28,802 km.

Mr. Thomas said new bus services would be operated to Nagercoil via Kaliakkavila, Thenkasi via Shencottah, Theni via Kumili, Coimbatore via Palakkad and Sulthan Bathery via Guddalore. The agreement had been approved by the Kerala Cabinet.

Comprehensive pact

The Minister mooted a comprehensive agreement instead of the supplementary agreement signed on June 30, 1976. It was agreed that the pact would be reviewed within a year. The next agreement would not be a supplementary one.

The KSRTC and the SETC have agreed to operate 30 buses to Pampa from various destinations for the Mandala-Makaravilakku season. The agreement was signed by Chairman and Managing Director of KSRTC T.P. Senkumar and Managing Director of SETC M. Ramasubramoniam.

The buses to Pampa will ply from November 15 to January 20. The KSRTC will deploy 46 buses for operating services from Pampa to Tamil Nadu.
