VISAKHAPATNAM: Two of the four wild elephants captured by the Forest Department from a dense forest near Thoorpuvalasa in Srikakulam district were sent to Orissa by road on Saturday evening.
As part of ‘Operation Gaja’, they were sent with escort and armed guards by separate lorries to Lakhari sanctuary in Gajapati district of Orissa.
New strategy
“The translocation to their wild habitat is our new strategy finalised in consultation with elephant expert from Assam Vijayanand Choudhury.
“The 20-member Hulla team, which arrived from Midnapore of West Bengal is also kept as a stand-by,” Conservator of Forests P.V. Padmanabham told The Hindu.
