PCTC emerges champion

BANGALORE: Pioneer Corps Training Centre defeated ASC Centre 2-1 and claimed the title in the D.S. Murthy and V. Karunakaran memorial hockey tournament at the KSHA Stadium here on Saturday.

PCTC went ahead in the 15th minute through Cyprial Aind, but Tetes equalised for ASC in the 31st minute.

PCTC struck a minute before the break with Senthil Mudu finding the board with a rasping drive. Both teams frittered a few penalty corners in the second session and PCTC hung onto its slender lead.

In the third place play-off, Karnataka State Police beat Maratha Light Infantry 3-2.

Special awards: Best half-back: Hardeep Singh (ASC); Best forward: Cyprian Aind (PCTC); Best back: Mohan Kunmar (KSP); Best goalkeeper: Altaf (MLI); Player of the tournament: Noel Dodrey (MEG Boys).

Narrow win for HASC

Hindusthan Aeronautics Sports Club prevailed over Jayanagar SC 48-44 after leading 33-29 at the break in the State ‘A’ division basketball championship.

In the other matches, Vijaya Bank crushed NAL Sports Club 58-16 while MEG defeated Koramangala BC 46-29. In another tie, ASC beat Karnataka State Police 59-44.

JIRS triumphs

Jain International Residential School (Bangalore) and Lawrence School (Udhagamandalam) bagged the u-19 boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the CBSE South Zone inter-school hockey tournament at the JIRS camps on Saturday.

In the boys’ final, JIRS beat Ivy League Academy (Hyderabad) 3-1. Lawrence crushed BVB School BHEL (Hyderabad) 8-0 in the girls’ final. A splendid display by Upasana Sharma who scored five goals marked Lawrence’s big win.

Double for MSRIT

Host M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology won the men’s and women’s s titles in the M.S. Ramaiah memorial inter-engineering college basketball tournament here.

In the men’s final, MSRIT defeated R.N. Institute of Technology 56-54, while in the women’s section MSRIT beat P.E.S. Institute of Technology 37-31.

Ashwin Shetty of SIT and Sindhu were adjudged most valuable players in the men’s and women’s sections.

The results (finals): Men: MSRIT 56 (Anirudh 17, Arun Britto 11) bt RNSIT 54 (Ashwin Reddy 17, Pradeep 11).

Women: MSRIT 37 (Tara 17) bt PESIT 31 (S. Sindhu 25).

KEB HS in final

At Hubli, KE Board HS (Dharwad) and Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Hubli) entered the final of the super league match of the KSCA’s Dharwad Zone under-13 inter-school cricket tournament.

The scores: Rotary EMHS 53 in 21.4 overs (H. Sagar four for one, Akash Noola four for 21) lost to KEB HS (Dharwad) 57 for no loss in 14 overs; Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Hubli) 188 in 38.2 overs (Sounak Biswas 62, Atreya Inamdar 50, Likhit Bannur three for 28, Arbaz three for 38) bt Pawan EMHS 103 in 35.3 overs (Ashish Kundapur 33, Pavan Padasalagi three for 16).

NWR posts win

At Mysore, helped by some inspiring play by Sameer Rohat (18 points), North West Region registered a narrow 36-33 win over Jharkhand-Bihar in the senior boys section in a Group A league match in the XI ASISC junior & senior (boys & girls) basketball championship.
