CHIRALA: Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, has asked the officials to speed up Indiramma housing program and complete construction of houses taken up in the first and second phases by November end. Reviewing the welfare and development program in his Chirala constituency here today, Mr Rosaiah, appreciated the guidelines drawn for identifying beneficiaries, allotment of house-sites and construction of houses in the second phase of Indiramma program. He wanted the officials to follow the same guidelines in releasing assistance for houses yet to be constructed in the first phase too. He said that the government allotted Rs. 5,000 crore for Indiramma housing program in 2007-08 budget. No State Government made such massive allocation for housing in the country, he said. He exhorted the officials to work in coordination and complete the programme. No eligible person should be left out and all efforts should be made to weed out ineligible applicants. Mr Rosaiah inaugurated two houses constructed in Kothapalem panchayat where 138 houses were sanctioned and 79 were completed till now. While 29 houses are at various stages of completion, 30 houses are not yet grounded. He said that 1,970 self-help groups were provided loans amounting to Rs. 42 crore in Chirala constituency where government released Rs. 42 lakh towards subsidy to banks to charge the groups only with 25 paise interest.
