BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday stressed the need for making modern healthcare facility available to poor people living in the rural areas. Inaugurating the fourth national convention of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecology Society of India through the Gramsat network here, Mr. Patnaik said that the medical practitioners and students should keep track of the new developments taking place in the field of medicine. The medical practitioners should apply the new methods of treatment and latest technologies while extending medical treatment to patients. Expressing concern over the high maternal mortality rate in the country despite developments taking place in various fields of life, the Chief Minister said the gynaecologists should strive hard to reduce the rate of maternal mortality. Among others who were present on the occasion include president of the Society Pavan Desai and secretary general of the organisation C.N. Purandare. The inaugural ceremony was made available live through the INSAT-3B at 116 medical colleges across the country. More than 22000 gynaecologists and medical students took part in the event in different parts of the country.
